Terminator 6: Hollywood's Attempt at Diversity

I truly believe that the production office after failing again and again (Arnold beat them up) to make a good reboot just decided that the only way they could market this is if they brought in a female Latina and played the strong woman card. They even dragged back Linda Hamilton from her retirement, the poor woman, just to make a mediocre film with some good action scenes.

They even got in a Latino villain, but to give credit where credit is due, he does do a pretty decent job at acting. The monotone expressions carry just a hint of satisfaction while still remaining robotic enough (not as much as Arnold but then again that is Arnold he is unbeatable at giving zero acting). Arnold shows up again, again as a good guy (overplayed angle) but hey at least they made him a father here, but gives us just enough muscle for us to convince ourselves he did a good job here. He again sacrifices himself and his body against the villain. The villain again seems unbeatable and they spend half the movie escaping it. Dani Ramos's character is luckily not that annoying, she accepts her brother's death quickly and keeps moving, a quality I appreciated a lot in Sarah's character in the original films. Speaking of, they butchered Sarah's character. They reversed Terminator 3, and killed off John instead and replaced him with a woman which is well, that's Hollywood for you. They turned her into a revenge-bent granny, she lost that edge of self-preservation and the smart decision making skills that came with. I found myself constantly frustrated by her poor decisions and as she jumped into action without thinking, the old Sarah seemed lost truly.

Dark Fate recycles images, visual effects and even dialogue from the previous movies, including lines that have been uttered so many times in so many other pop-culture contexts that they now elicit groans within the confines of an actual “Terminator” setting. Sure, it’s great to see Linda Hamilton back, swaggering and kicking ass in the defining role of her career as Sarah Connor. But now she’s the one who gets to say “I’ll be back” (it’s hilarious!) as well as some other painfully clunky lines like: “I hunt Terminators. And I drink ‘til I black out.” I mean its so crude, so unlike her old character.

Grace's character is like new female Arnold. They really went for overkill with the female diversity here, didn't they. It almost feels like I'm watching Barbie. That first fight scene between her and the Rev-9 villain was good though, filled with acrobatics and crazy stunts, something unexplored in previous films and not just mindless shooting which was fun to see.

The banter boring, the action sequences sparse, the pace tiring and character development negative. To quote Bart, "This both sucks and blows." Arnold really needs to retire.
